A word from your

Pastor

Now Easter has come and gone.  It is hard to believe that we are already into the month of April.  God blessed us so much on Easter.  We had 53 people here for sunrise and 64 here for morning worship.  Each of those people have now had a seed of salvation sown into their lives.  Now our job is to continue to water those seeds and hopefully one day God will give the increase.  I am truly blessed to have each one of you as part of my church family.  April 1st marked the one year anniversary that I entered into the ministry full-time.  There have been ups and downs during that first year of full-time ministry.  But one thing that is for certain, it was the most exciting year of my life.  In that time Diana and I have welcomed our second child into the world, as a church we have gained new members, had four baptisms, and Diana and I celebrated our third wedding anniversary.  I am anxious to see how God continues to work in my life, my family’s life, and the church’s life.  I believe that our most exciting days are still ahead of us.  I am praying to see and trying to listen to all of you to be able to know what God’s will is for our church.  The only thing I ask is this.  When God speaks, we must be in unity and willing to follow Him no matter what.  We can not go out our mission half-heartedly.  If we are going to make a dent in and push hell’s gates back we must go forward in the full power of God.  I don’t want the devil simply worried that we are doing God’s work; I want him running scared because of what God is accomplishing here.  I hope you all will join me as we submit to the Headship of the Lord Jesus and has we are about our Father’s business.  May God bless you all!

    Getting to know you..

Each month we will feature a member of East End.  We hope that this will help everyone to become a little more familiar with their church family.  Please take the time and write a brief biography of yourself and give it either to me, Steven Elkins or feel free to e-mail it to sdewwjd@yahoo.com.

This month’s members are……

 Tim and Brenda Harris

We have been married for 27 years. We spend 12 years in the US Air Force and have traveled all over the world. Being from Roanoke originally we decided to come back after our world tour.

We searched for a church we could be a part of. As we believe it’s not enough to go or be a member of, you need to serve. Don’t know that we always felt this way. In the beginning it was enough for us to be like most Christians today, just make the appearance weekly. We attended many churches some long term some just visits. Brenda was a member of East End Baptist Church from her youth. We upon much persistence of Linda, decided to try East End. This turns out to be a good move. Thanks Linda. We believe this is where God wants us to be. We have made lots of friends here, and feel like a part of the church.

We both feel God as a plan for us and he wants more than just attending. Recently I have felt a calling toward youth ministry. As is the case most of the time, God as of yet has not revealed the entire plan. And I know its God because it makes no sense, as we don’t have any experience in ministry and only a little in youth. We do have a 24 year old son who is a responsible adult. Maybe this is something today.

We are looking forward to working with the youth as they are the future and we need to prepare them for the work ahead. When we first started coming here, God expressed a view of this church needing to add on to have enough room for all that is going to be here in the future. As with anything you are building, it is essential to have a good foundation. The attitudes are in the right place with the people. We have started with the Experiencing God study and have plans for Evangelism training in the near future. These are important blocks in the building that will prepare us for the task ahead and takes time to achieve.

Thank God and all of the wonderful people at East End for letting us be a part.

Love, Tim & Brenda Harris
